Dahlias

Dahlias are the one flower I always cut… that and gladiolus, but the glads were planted late, so who knows if they’ll ever bloom!?growing dahliasThe “Plum Pretty” are my favorites, I like the curly cactus petals and the dark color.  The creamy “moonlight” bloom nonstop and the violet “Ooh La La” are nice enough (ok so they’re not my favorite).  The peachy-yellow are an older one from one of those Sam’s club mixes.  The more you cut, the more blooms will come up, so there’s sure to be another post or two of gratuitous dahlia color!

I made a trip down to Chanticleer this week.  It was beautiful and you can bet there will be MANY pictures posted.  Here’s a taste.  I was pleased to see this color combination, it’s similar to my salvia-verbena combo (that some people didn’t like) and I feel vindicated to see it used elsewhere… with a lot more green, I think the green calms it nicely.chanticleer I saw so many cool ideas and plants, it will be a long post or two… or three 🙂

I’m also a lover of Dahlias but don’t have any this year. Fortunately you can buy them on the markets. They last a long time as cut flowers. Chanticleer must be great so I shall look forward to your post.

I like the Plum Pretty’s dark color. Meant to grow some Dahlias this summer but never got around to it. Seeing your collection makes me pay the price for procrastination. The Chanticleer photo is intriguing.

There’s always next year or the year after! I’ve had them here and there for the last couple summers, I suspect that when I get tired of digging them up they’ll disappear again for a few more summers. Things come and go 🙂

  3. Gorgeous! Keep the photos coming! btw purple and gold are technically complimentary colors so nuts to those who don’t like them together. Though I am biased. I think purple and *anything* go well together.

Oh are you going to get photos…. at one point at Chanticleer I had to sit down and delete Christmas and birthday photos to make more room on the camera’s memory card! I’m pretty sure we’ve already downloaded them all….. but I did feel a bit guilty 🙂
