It appears this garden and most of the East Coast are still going over one more speedbump on the road to spring. Today we welcomed a little over two feet of snow into the garden, and I suspect it will be a bit before (a) the kids return to school, and (b) I need to fertilize the lawn.
I might be early on this decision but I’m considering this as the 2017 Tuesday view. Under all the snow is the mixed plantings of the street border, a name I came up with all by myself based on the fact it’s a border and it runs along the street 😉
Some might say 2017 has been off to a rough start, and they might be right, but I’m going to try and think about other things such as Cathy’s Tuesday View and consider the border along the street as my entry for this year. Posting every week might be a stretch, but maybe showing this view once every other week will be do-able. We’ll see.
Two feet of March snow is excellent fort building material and the front yard is a battleground of trenches and tunnels… plus buried snowdrops and crocus.
Right now the view doesn’t really matter though. People are still digging out and cars and trucks are being pulled out (as our evening walk down to the main street demonstrated) and we just have to deal with that first. The forecast ahead is cold, but the sun when it comes out will be strong, and hopefully there’s something left to look forward to when all this snow melts… since the snowdrops have already given up on spring.

Looks like your snow has stopped. Ours hasn’t yet. Up to 33″ before it got dark and it’s still snowing at 11pm. Maybe I should stop staring out the window and go to bed.

Sounds like you’ll pass the three foot mark during the night. We had some more this evening but nothing like the steady snow from earlier in the day. I love a good snowstorm, so this is great, but I’m a little embarrassed by how little was done around the house during our snow-day.
We heard about your storm on our news in the UK and I wondered how you were all doing. I don’t think I have ever experienced that much snow, hopefully all your plants are staying nice and warm.
The plants are probably better off for their covering of snow. Temperatures have been getting pretty low and at least this way I don’t need to worry!
That really is a SNOW STORM, like Pauline I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much snow fall except perhaps once when we arrived at a ski resort to find no snow at all, but the following morning everything was white and all the passes out of the village were closed!
Snow is so much more exciting when you mix it in with a ski vacation 🙂
Well actually that’s not entirely true, all this snow still excites me since we’re all safe at home and the weather for the weekend looks warmer. Still, they are continuing to work through it here, we do get snow but it’s been about 12 years since this much came down all at once. It doesn’t help that it keeps coming, I’m going to guess another 6 inches have come down since the first batch.

The whole point of a snow day is to take advantage of it by doing nothing. We didn’t even leave the house to walk down the driveway to get the newspaper. And we only got 4 inches or so.
Haha. I shoveled a path to the bird feeder and nearly gave up once the snow drifts became waist deep. Far too much work for a snowday so we recovered by making chocolate chip cookies and then ate a few while watching the birds 😉
You did say you wanted a drift of snowdrops. Maybe someone misheard.

Well, I am very impressed with that new view Frank! Seriously, that is a lot of snow all at once. My view is still practically dormant, even though the temperatures are slowly reaching double figures (10°C) almost daily now. But perhaps I will choose a new one for this year. I also like the idea of posting every second week if there isn’t much change.
It will come along so fast now that you’re finally getting some warmer days. From the looks of it even though the slope is still asleep you do have a few things looking spring-like! Hopefully our crocus do as well once the white blanket come off.
Oh dear – guess you can enjoy another break from gardening, Frank, which may not be too bad after all…I was rushing around with the lawn mower and strimmer today, things are growing like mad. Keep your chin up and yourselves warm xx
Mowing already!? I think I’m safe from that for at least another month, right now all the gas is needed for the snowblower 🙂
I tried to sow a few seeds today, but become remarkably lazy once the walks are cleared. Everything is still shut down tomorrow so maybe I’ll have a second chance then!
